Youtube is all too familiar with these copyright laws. Videos that are uploaded and have copyright attachments are generally taken down immediately upon upload. Various boxing matches, songs, and music videos are some of the most popular. Just last month I viewed this new Kid CuDi music video, and when I tried to view it a week later it had been removed due to copyright infringement. While copyright laws might impose upon a user's ability to watch a certain video, it is all for the benefit of the creator.
True! You Tube creators are well aware of copyright laws. I think it is interesting that you couldn't view the video after the fact. I wonder if the video could still be found elsewhere on the Internet since it is nearly impossible to erase an internet trial. I'm curious what your position on the filtration of youtube is; are you for or against the fact that youtube removes these copyrighted videos?
ReplyDeleteI definitely understand the purpose of copyrights and agree with the application to Youtube you discussed. However, I'm not sure I'm in complete agreement with the very positive view expressed in your post. Creative works are meant to be viewed. And while I understand that the artists who create them do need some monetary compensation if they are going to continue producing, I can't help but feel that they should have some motivation that is not monetary. Also, I feel that everyone should have equal access to creative artwork. Putting a price tag on things keeps this distribution from happening. Is copyright a good thing? I'm not necessarily sure.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you about how YouTube takes down videos that are against copyright laws, however I find that the way they deal with it sometimes is incorrect. Go back to that Kid Cudi video in maybe four weeks, and you will find it posted. I believe that YouTube only removes videos due to copyright when there is still hype about the "art". However, later on they get somewhat lazy, and many videos that are clearly infringing copyright are still there. My example to this is when I want to watch a goal the day it happens, all the videos are removed due to copyright issues. but if I search for it a week later, I can easily find them.
ReplyDeleteI also think that everything they do is not correct. Youtube does takes down videos that are against copyright laws, but they are not all the time.Additionally, understanding the purpose of copyrights and agree with the application to Youtube you discussed is well done.
