Applying this argument to YouTube is slightly difficult for me since I don't use the sight all that often. However, I have tried searching for videos using search tags such as "snookie gets punched in the face" and am unable to find a video clip. Sometimes a thumbnail will appear, but when I click on it there is a message saying the video has been removed due to copyright infringement. MTV and the producers of Jersey Shore clearly don't want their material floating around the internet, free for people to look at. A similar phenomenon has occurred when searching for movie trailer clips or music videos. I'm not sure who monitors the proper and improper sharing of videos on YouTube, but they are doing a very good job of preventing illegal sharing.
Nice job Emily!
ReplyDeleteI liked how you included a personal comment on experiencing copyright protection on YouTube. I haven't come across this, seeing as I very rarely visit YouTube, but it is interesting to know that the company is monitoring its website appropriately. Hopefully they do not limit too many of the movies that are available, that could be frustrating! Good work!
I have also seen a lot of the videos on YouTube removed due to the copyrights. However, it's true that there are still myriad of video clips that are probably copyrighted and should not be posted on YouTube. So I think some of the broadcasting companies are monitoring videos on YouTube and are trying to block their programs being uploaded on YouTube, but YouTube could still do a better job at dealing with copyrighted materials.
